The Twilight Saga ReVamped & ReWolfed

WHY the REWRITE?
I'll say it again... INTEGRITY is the difference between love & obsession, peeps. THAT's a good lesson for you young pups to be learning with regard to this subject.
And additionally, in the case of The Twilight Saga, we can also add the word "professional" into this question - because it is supposed to be a professionally published book. And, aren't books published by professional book publishing companies supposed to pass a certain literary standard before they are put on bookshelves - for ANYONE, much less for the beloved young adult portion of our population?
What is love? What is a professionally published literary text? In the case of Twilight and in my opinion... It's the exact same question with the exact same answer:
NOT Twilight the way it is now, THAT's for SURE.
I've been trying to read Twilight now, and it's a slow process; but it is the reason why I'm going into this rewrite. I'm feeling a serious desire to "make Bella right" before I continue (I'm through Chapter 5 - here's a link to my ramblings on my other blog if you're interested in checking it out what my issues with this silly saga are, so far). I have no idea how far this will go - I may even see if I can make Edward right, ha!
Twilight ReVAMPED - Ch. 1: First Sight
One thing I did NOT do while I wrote this - was entirely rewrite her. Despite my rantings about the literary writing mistakes surrounding Bella on my other blog; Bella is Stephenie Meyer's character, so I will try to stick close to the things she insisted on tacking onto her. But, I'll try to be less irritating about it; AND I'll just try to flesh her out, more.
Keep in mind that I have not read the entire Twilight Saga all the way through, so I do not have Stephenie Meyer's original Twilight version of Bella entirely emblazoned in my brain (thankfully). The version in my head will be heavily laden by "Midnight Sun" (which is technically very much her version, just unpublished), in which Edward talks about Bella and the other characters alot more; and of COURSE, Kristen Stewart's movie version (which is probably heavily influenced by Twilight's Screenwriter, Melissa Rosenberg's & the various Directors' versions, and who knows how many other creative folks there are involved in helping to create the character of Bella for the movies) - tempered with my own wonky head, ha!
There are things that will be tinkered with surrounding Bella (as well as the rest of the characters as I get to them, I would imagine) - but only as a corrective adjustment, not as an attempt to "make her mine". Trust me, if I were to take these characters and write it for myself and everyone out here - it would be a completely different story.
My point in doing this is to help you see what this amazing fairytale could have been if Stephenie Meyer had taken the time to write this story responsibly & correctly (or, as close to that as *I* can get it).
WHY am I taking the time to flesh out Bella? BECAUSE NONE OF YOU LADIES GIVES A SHIT ABOUT HER - or ANY of the other Twilight characters, for that matter! It's EDWARD this and EDWARD that (and sometimes Jacob) - Stephenie BARELY INTRODUCED you to her before you all got hooked on this crap.
That's why you can pass this story off, you don't care... You're obsessed about Edward and could care less about any other character.
IF this story had been PUBLISHED FOR YOU perverted older BRATS - Yeah, it would maybe be Ok! It's NOT LIKE it was written as a trashy novel for you to pass the time on your vacation!
I'm NOT talking about you young girls if you're in here reading this - I've heard you talk about Bella and all the other characters. I KNOW you both know and love them, dearly - BUT, YOU kids who WERE NOT debunked by this storyline SEE these characters DIFFERENTLY than we older ladies do! Believe it or NOT - Stephenie Meyer and the rest of these women out here (I don't care HOW many of them there are against my ONE voice) are BEING BAD, LoL!
IF we were in college... And the instructor had just given us an assignment to write the first chapter for a novel. IF Stephenie Meyer was a college literary student (which she has been - in FACT, she graduated!); she would probably NOT have gotten an "A" on the first chapter of Twilight - I seriously doubt. I wish a few good English teachers who haven't read the books yet would go through it and grade it - just so we would know, for sure.
I'm not saying that *my* version is going to be a literary marvel - but I have a really really good excuse. I have NEVER taken a college writing course much less graduated with a literary degree. If this isn't perfect... Yeah, I know. :)
YOU kids all have to do your homework and dot your "I's" and cross your "T's" - but, why didn't this GROWN ADULT WOMAN have to?! And WHY doesn't she have to, now?!
I'm going to make you all CARE about Bella and her life, as well as EVERY OTHER CHARACTER SURROUNDING HER (I'm NOT going to make her decisions easy for her OR you) - INCLUDING EDWARD - who, it seems to me; you've all just taken under the covers with you to have your way with him like Stephenie was no doubt doing when she WROTE this stupid saga so ignorantly and irresponsibly...
So when it really comes down to it... YOU DON'T even care about HIM, just your sick little "escape"!
The young adult audience that this story was TARGETED FOR of ALL GENDERS - deserved a whole hell of alot better than this.THAT's why I'm doing this... For ALL THOSE PEOPLE, especially the young women and young men (as well as us older ones!) who were debunked by Breaking Dawn after it was published. We KNOW better... and we were EXPECTING better.
AND it IS ALSO for the rest of you... I DARE you; I DOUBLE DARE you - READ this and tell me you don't care alot more about Bella at the end of this Chapter than you did at the end of Stephenie's first one.
Yeah, you're welcome to let me know what you think - in fact, please do.
If you hate Twilight so much why are you putting all this effort into rewriting it? Guess what? the only people who will bother reading it are the ones who absolutely fell in love with SM's version. Chances are, those people have fleshed out the characters, using their own interest and imagination, in whatever way makes them happy. Isn't that what reading is all about. It opens the door for us to think. I can enjoy a book without having 57 reasons to love and respect the main character spoon fed to me in the first three pages. When you've come up with your own bestseller-turned world-wide-phenomenon, maybe then you'll have the right to judge Stephenie Meyer. In the meantime, it seems like she's done a pretty good job getting her hooks into YOU.
ReplyDeleteGOSH, aren't you BRILLIANT, Lady!! If you read through the introduction - you would find out that I am NOT rewriting it, anymore. I stopped writing it when I found out about how Stephenie so irresponsibly twisted the Quiluete Tribe's REAL Creation Oral History into her silly 'saga'.
DeleteAt that point, I determined that this story was NO LONGER WORTHY of being rewritten - so I just did this summary. Additionally, WHY do you think any OTHER estranged Twilight Fan BEFORE ME rewrote this story (many of them actually rewrote it - not just a summary like this). Because they WERE also obsessed - but they needed to 'make things make sense' in their own heads. Yeah, you might all want to actually read through this stuff before you start ripping me a new one.
NO ONE should have had to 'rewrite' this story - either in their head or through actually rewriting it. This IS NOT how sagas are written. THIS isn't Stephenie's fault - she was an AMATEUR writer. It is her PUBLISHER'S fault for ignoring some of the MOST BASIC literary standards when they published the very first book - AND they KNEW it WAS BAD, that's WHY they didn't want to publish Breaking Dawn. Stephenie had to FORCE it on us all.
This 'saga' was NOTHING BUT the result of professional NEGLIGENCE by 'professional' publishers. And LOOK what all has happened with it since as a result!! People have been torturing obsessed Twilight Fans about it from DAY ONE. HOW is this Okay with ANY of you?!!
I'M obsessed? I'm not the one willing to throw Robert, Kristen and ALL OF Stephenie's CURRENT OBSESSING FANS under the bus JUST so I can continue to hang onto my sick little 'escape'.
Comment (1/21) at the bottom of my other blog: I've never gotten so obsessed with anything like this that it affected my life. I had a friend in high school who became so obsessed with a particular band that it took over her life and threatened personal relationships with friends and even guys (who could never live up to the image she had of those band guys!) But hasn't this been the case forever? Beatles... Elvis...
My Response: Yeah, Kinda... Except those were WORTHY obsessions. Why?! Because people who did NOT like the Beatles or Elvis for whatever reason had no other reason to not like them aside from their own personal moral standards and/or opinions. Twilight actually HURT people because of all the dysfunction written throughout it. There is a HUGE difference because it (Twilight's obsessions) were caused by professional NEGLIGENCE - as opposed to creative BRILLIANCE (like the Beatles and Elvis).
You were ALL WRONG about Twilight obsessions being HARMLESS because you didn't count on HOLLYWOOD being such an *ss about every TwiThing!!
